RE: Mercury to die
I heard a report yesterday (Friday) that said they were thinking about it, and that they expected a formal announcement in July. I had no idea that the decision would be made so soon. Where did you hear/read this?

RE: Mercury to die
I'm really not that surprised. If you watch car commercial on TV, then recently, I have noticed a lot for FORD, and for LINCOLN, but almost none for Mercury. Mercury's commercials have been so scarce that I can't think of their full lineup off the top of my head. I can for both Ford and Lincoln.

Ford has got the trucks, and Lincoln has their old fart cars (excluding the Mark VIII like mine), so that puts mercury in the out.

Sad to say, but Mercury was like Oldsmobile in the end. Not really geared towards anyone in particular. Chevy was cheap, pontiac, was sporty, buick was old and middle income, caddy was old and high income. Oldsmobile didn't have a direction, and mercury is now the same way.

Sad really.....

Mr. Smith had an Oldsmobile
Baby blue with wire wheels
I took her home the day she was advertised
He said she leaked when it would rain
Sounded like an airplane.
But I knew she was a jewel in disguise

RE: Mercury to die
There's quite a few Merc commercials in Chi-Town here. Always with the same eye-candy girl talking about Milans and Mariners. I always liked Mercs better than Fords. I think they look better. Oh well.

RE: Mercury to die
well, that is how I was towards oldsmobile. I liked them more than the cheap look of chevy, the old fart look of buick, and the upper crusty look of caddy. I also didn't like the pontiacs cause they all looked the same.

As far as lincoln goes, I have always loved how they look. I do like the Milan over the Fusion, but truth be told, if I could afford a new car, I would be getting an MKZ over the other 2.

RE: Mercury to die
I'm afraid, as of late, all that Mercury had going for it was its past history. For at least the last 20 years Mercury was a rebadged Ford (with a frill or two) much like what general motors did to Oldsmobile and Pontiac. Hate to see the old nameplates go but Detroit has to economize to remain viable from the onslaught of foreign competition.

'04 Bravada, '06 STS, but still looking for that '69 Z-28
